AAMRI 2016-17 Budget Submission

AAMRI has made its 2016-17 pre-Budget Submission.

Central to our submission are:

  1. The urging of the Government to stand firm on its commitment to build the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) to $20 billion by 2019-2020.
  2. The need for urgent reform to the funding of the indirect costs of research, such as utility bills and the costs of corporate support, prior to the roll out of the MRFF to ensure it does not cripple the sector it aims to bolster.
  3. A call for the opening up of Australian Research Council (ARC) funding to researchers at medical research institutes and hospitals.
  4. The need for Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption caps to be indexed to CPI and include a retrospective adjustment for the erosion in the real value of caps over the past 15 years.
