2016-17 Federal Budget
3rd May, 2016
The Federal Government confirmed its commitment to the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) in what was otherwise a no frills budget for medical research this year. Importantly, the MRFF is on track to reach $20 billion by 2020-21, with $61 million in earnings from the fund expected to be allocated to medical research and medical innovation in 2016-17, followed by a further $723 million in funding over the following three years. This will be in addition to NHMRC funding, which has been maintained in the budget. That is what we call good news for Australian medical research!
