AAMRI Consortium for Modern Slavery Reporting

Together with The Kids Research Institute Australia, WEHI and the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute, AAMRI is forming a consortium to jointly address the requirements of the Modern Slavery Act 2018.

13 December 2024

As part of this initiative, AAMRI is partnering with Informed 365, a highly regarded data provider specialising in Modern Slavery compliance.

The Informed 365 platform is designed to uncover the most comprehensive supplier and third party insights to help medical research institutes streamline their voluntary or mandatory modern slavery reporting.

Modern slavery in Australia

50 million people globally and 15,000 people in Australia are estimated to be living in slave-like conditions, including human trafficking, slavery, servitude, forced marriage, forced labour, debt bondage, deceptive recruitment and the worst forms of child labour, which involve slavery practices or hazardous work involving children.

In Australia, the Modern Slavery Act 2018 requires large businesses and other entities with a turnover of more than $100 million AUD to report annually on the actions they have taken to address modern slavery risks in their operations and supply chains.

With the appointment last month of a new Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner, along with recent recommendations to lower the reporting threshold from $100 million to $50 million, many organisations not meeting the current threshold are now submitting voluntary Modern Slavery Statements to prepare for future requirements and demonstrate their commitment to addressing modern slavery and human trafficking risks in their operations and supply chains.

Benefits of a medical research institute consortium

  • Expected overlap of over 60% of suppliers represents an opportunity to reduce supplier fatigue significantly by only requiring suppliers to complete their questionnaire once. This approach also enables more rapid insights for AAMRI consortium members as data shared by suppliers can be made immediately available to all.
  • Ongoing peer support and monthly subject matter expert support at consortium meetings – a proven model of tackling the challenge alongside other organisations, with the support of subject matter experts.
  • Combine shared supplier data with your private, internal data for the most comprehensive view of a supplier – individual, secure dashboards allowing members to share supplier data, while keeping spend and other confidential data private.
  • Access to the tried and tested Informed 365 tool backed by industry consortium success stories across the Property, Water, Energy, Not-for-profit, and Health sectors.

Functionality to expand into other ESG areas such as Scope 3 emissions reporting in the future.
