AAMRI is piloting Career YOU – a five-module live online career development program for eligible* applicants working within the Australian healthcare and medical research ecosystem

Previously co-designed with the sector and led by Franklin Women, Career YOU aims to help participants excel in their current roles while building clear, strategic career goals. Through expert-led sessions, peer connection and practical tools, participants gain the confidence and skills to navigate their careers with purpose.

*Participant eligibility
The 2026 AAMRI pilot of Career YOU is open specifically to early to mid-career academics and professional staff (working in any discipline, role or organisation) within the Australian healthcare and medical research ecosystem who experience known barriers to career participation and progression:
- Women
- Regional place of work
- LGBTQIA+
- Neurodiverse
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Refugee
- Migrant
- English as a second language (ESL)
- Culturally and racially marginalised (CARM)
- Disabled and/or with chronic health conditions

Program timing
Delivered by Leading Lighter facilitator Jo Porter, the course will run over five live online sessions:
- Module 1 – Strengths Deep Dive: Tuesday 21 July, 12:00–3:00 PM (AEST)
- Module 2 – Career Goals: Tuesday 4 August, 12:00–2:00 PM (AEST)
- Module 3 – Career Toolbox: Tuesday 18 August, 12:00–2:00 PM (AEST)
- Module 4 – Insights from Experience: Tuesday 1 September, 12:00–2:00 PM (AEST)
- Module 5 – Take Action: Tuesday 15 September, 12:00–2:00 PM (AEST)
In addition to attending the five sessions, participants are expected to complete offline coursework.
Cost to participate – open to a maximum of 30 registrants:
- $550 + GST for AAMRI Member (full and affiliate) Institute employees
- $850 + GST for all other participants.
Why take part?
Post evaluation of the program in 2025 found that 95% of participants agreed they gained new skills and knowledge relevant to their development and current career stage, and 90% of participants agreed the program offered an appropriate balance between listening, doing and discussing.
